As people grow older they have impairments caused by the natural aging process. These impairments cause a decrease in strength, dexterity, motor and perception skills.
When someone purchases a home they do not consider the challenges they will eventually face as they age, and most homes were not built on that premise. The majority of accidents in the home are caused while an aging person is performing a routine daily task; which only a minor change could have prevented.
Many Seniors are not equipped to handle and or manage home modification projects themselves; nor are they fully educated on all the areas of improvement that will reduce risk of injury or accident.
Existing home remodeling and contractor companies typically can’t afford to complete these lower cost projects, and basic handyman service companies may not have the skills to handle some of the tasks and are typically overwhelmed with work and not able to begin a project for weeks or even months.
In many cases, especially after an injury and or major surgery, the patient needs the project completed quickly so they can return to their home as soon as possible. The speed of beginning and completing the project has a direct impact on the financial burden placed on the patient, as well as the insurance and healthcare systems.
